August 8
Assault with weapon
A person reported being chased by a male subject (description provided) wielding a baseball bat in the back alley of the 5000 Block and 53 Street. Police attended and located and arrested the 45-year-old male subject. The male was transported to Camrose Police Service cells, charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and released on an Undertaking.
Impaired driving
A person reported a vehicle colliding with another vehicle in the parking lot of a local retail business (description of vehicle provided.) Police attended and located the subject vehicle determining the 68-year-old female operator of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment. After several unsuccessful attempts to provide an Alcohol Screening Device test, the female was charged with Refusal to Provide an Adequate Sample and the vehicle was towed.
Assault
A female person reported being assaulted by a male subject (known to them) by being struck on the back of her head. Police attended and arrested the 60-year-old male and transported him to Camrose Police Service cells and charged him with Assault, Uttering Threats, Assault with a Weapon and Assault by choking. A Judicial Interim Release hearing was conducted, resulting in the male being held in custody. The matter is set to appear in Court at a later date.
August 9
Impairment by drugs
A person reported a vehicle driving into a ditch near 68 Street and Camrose Drive and colliding with several road signs. Police attended and located the subject vehicle. A 42-year-old male was located in the driver’s seat of the vehicle while displaying signs of impairment. Police also noted drug paraphernalia on the floor of the driver’s side. Prior to the arrival of Emergency Medical Services the male subject experienced seizures. The male was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for medical care where blood was also drawn for the impaired driving investigation. The male was issued Immediate Roadside Sanctions. The vehicle was towed and the City of Camrose was notified about the broken signs.
August 10
Assault
A person reported a male subject, who was the subject of a previous assault with a weapon investigation on July 28, and was now back at a local hotel. When police arrived the male subject (youth) evaded police by riding away on a bicycle, then running and hiding under a parked vehicle. Police arrested the youth and charged him with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Uttering Threats, from the previous investigation and new charges of Obstruct a Police Officer and2 counts of Fail to Comply with Order of Youth Sentence. The youth was released to a parent on an Undertaking with numerous conditions.
Excessive speed
Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on 68 Street (103 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone.) The 18-year-old operator of the vehicle failed a Standard Field Sobriety Test and was issued violation tickets and a 24-hour Driving Suspension. The vehicle was towed.
August 12
Break and Enter
Sometime overnight, a local retail store had the front door smashed. The owner was contacted and attended. It was determined the suspect(s) entered and stole a number of collectible cards and board games. There was no money taken. Police gathered items and evidence from the scene. This matter is still under investigation.
Impaired by drugs
While on proactive foot patrol in the downtown area police located a vehicle parked and running with a 31-year-old male in the driver’s seat slumped over, passed out at the wheel. Additional members attended and assisted to conduct a traffic stop. The male was noticeably intoxicated and arrested for impaired by drug Care and Control of the vehicle. As no Drug Recognition Expert was readily available, a blood demand was read. The male was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where samples of his blood were obtained for analysis. The male was served an Immediate Roadside Sanction Fail. The vehicle was searched incidental of the arrest resulting in locating 3 spitballs of cocaine (3.6 g). The vehicle was seized and towed.
August 14
Wanted out of Edmonton
While conducting proactive patrol, police noted a 33-year-old female subject (known to police) driving a vehicle near a local grocery store. Police record checks revealed the female had an outstanding warrant from Edmonton Police Service (EPS) for theft. Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the female operator of the vehicle was arrested. The 28-year-old male passenger also had an outstanding warrant from EPS for theft was also arrested. Both have extensive criminal histories and are associated with the sale and use of illegal drugs.
Impaired driving
While conducting proactive patrols, police noticed a vehicle with a burned-out head lamp driving in the downtown area. Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and suspected the 51-year-old operator of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The male was requested to provide a breath sample on an approved screening device, which resulted in a “fail”. The male was issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction fail, issued traffic violation tickets and the vehicle was seized and towed.
