Report of a scammer claiming to be a lawyer representing victim’s nephew. Victim was defrauded out of $7,800.

Police executed search warrant on residence located on 42 Avenue in the 7100 block after receiving several complaints from local residents of suspected drug activity in the area. Police located and seized methamphetamine, GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyric), brass knuckles, several stolen bicycles, scales and drug packaging. Charged Spiros POULOS with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and possession of stolen property.  POULOS was released from custody and is required to appear in Camrose Court of Justice.

Police responded to a report of Break and Enter at Church of God. Police located subject inside and removed them from the property and issued a warning. Same subject was later arrested on a separate complaint from a retail business. Subject was charged with theft, possession of stolen property, mischief, cause a disturbance and revisiting arrest. Subject was lodged in police cells the later released on an undertaking.

Police responded to 911 call of “shots fired.” Upon arrival at the residence subject of the complaint police made contact with resident who appeared impaired by alcohol/drugs. Subject was uncooperative. Police entered the residence with the other (cooperative) resident at which point the police noted an open gun safe containing nine firearms, three of which did not have trigger locks. Ammunition and a trigger lock were located near the front door of the residence.  The intoxicated subject was arrested for careless use of a firearm and other related firearm offences and lodged in police cells after GSR sampling was completed. Police seized the nine firearms, ammunition and other evidence.  Once sober subject was released on an Undertaking.

Police charged a person with IRS (Immediate Roadside Sanction) refusal, suspended driver and seized 6.5 grams of cocaine and 7 grams of methamphetamine .

Police attempted traffic stop on a stolen vehicle, vehicle fled and spike belt was deployed. The stolen vehicle continued west through Camrose onto Highway 13 then north on Highway 21 where it was found abandoned outside of Hay Lakes with damaged tires. RCMP attended and deployed the K9 unit. Suspect was not located, still under investigation.

Complaint received from a person claiming to have been scammed on a dating website. Police provided complainant with advice on how to identify fraud and scams. Police remind residents to be extremely cautious when using any online sites.

Police responded to several complaints of fighting, dogs at large and multiple people coming and going, police attended residence subject of the complaint. A vehicle stop was conducted near the residence subject of the complaint and operator of the vehicle was issued ticket for no driver’s licence.

Police received several reports of mischief and damage to private property in the Duggan Park area. Reports of broken windows in vehicles, homes and garages.

Complaint received by another victim of a (Grandparent Scam).

Police strongly urge residents to be vigilant regarding any telephone calls that are not from known family , friends or businesses. Hang up on telephone calls that are not familiar or claim to be police, lawyers or representatives of the court, then contact Camrose Police at 780-672-4444.

Another report received about person scammed out of $6,800 with the Grandparent Scam. Scammer identifies as a lawyer calling because the victim’s grandson has been in an accident, drugs were located in the vehicle and the grandson is in jail and needs bail money. The victim is told where to bring the money to person waiting.

Police warn this is a scam. Do not pay money. Contact Camrose Police at 78-672-4444.

Police attended a report of assault. Suspect fled to a local motel where they remained inside a suite. Police contained the area and obtained a Feeney Warrant, then with judicial authorization entered the suite where the suspect was. Suspect not compliant, taser employed. EMS tended to suspect and cleared them for incarceration.  Suspect was charged with assault and mischief.

Report of suspicious persons going door to door requesting donation for a charity. Police located subjects of complaint who were unable to produce a business licence. Police advised subjects they are not allowed to operate in Camrose without business licence.

Police responded to complaint of “missing” property from attendees of a hockey camp. Possible suspect was identified and later determined to have stolen the items.  The items were returned to the rightful owners.

Report of another victim of the Grandparent Scam. The victim met the scammer at a location in Camrose and gave the scammer $6,700. Police obtained CCTV footage from the location which showed the suspect, described to be male, approximately 5’4”, stocky build, dark hair and very tanned complexion, wearing a white sweater with large logo and black sweat pants.

Police responded to a complaint of subject (non resident) trying to gain entry into an apartment building. Subject was located and determined to be in breach of probation orders. Subject was arrested and lodged in police cells.

Police responded to report of possible overdose. Police located subject of concern administered Narcan and CPR. Camrose Fire also attended to assist until EMS arrival. Subject was stabilized then transported by EMS.
